A free sneak preview of the Aloha Performing Arts Co. production of a new adaptation of “The Tempest” will be presented at the Kailua-Kona Public Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.

“The Tempest,” commonly believed to be William Shakespeare’s final play, will be presented at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu April 27-May 12, with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.

The possibility of a special daytime performance for schools on May 3 is being explored. Tickets for the regular run are $17 for seniors, $20 for adults and just $5 for students. For more information, call 322-9924.

Guest director Susie Burke, the play’s adapter, is an actor, director and playwright based in the Los Angeles area with many mainland theater credits.

In 1999, she created a reverse-gender adaptation of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” for APAC. She and Jerry Tracy, the company’s artistic director, have been professional collaborators since 1975, when they were both active members of the theater scene in Honolulu.

Tracy will play the lead role of Prospero in the production.

Joining him on stage will be David A. Payne as Caliban, Mia Kriebl-Bruno as Miranda, Roxanne Fox as Ariel, Daniel Lauzon as Ferdinand, Robin O’Hara as Gonzala, Felicity Johnson as Alonsa, Alec Lugo as Trinculo, Cathy Riehle as Stephana, and John Holliday as Antonio.
